In Chennai city, the daily or fresh number of Coronavirus infection cases has doubled in just 2 days of time. Tomorrow, New Year will begin and it is now revealed by some health experts that in the weeks following New Year the number of cases would increase even more. On Thursday, Chennai reported 397 fresh or new Covid-19 cases and that was 203 cases more than what was reported on Tuesday in Chennai.

Mr. J. Radhakrishnan, health secretary expressed his thoughts about the continuous rise in the number of Covid-19 cases in Chennai. He spoke about the spike of more than 100 cases for the second successive day. It is learnt that there are only 46 confirmed cases of Omicron now but in Tamil Nadu 146 international travelers and their contacts had S gene dropout. The surprising information is that persons even with travel history had S gene dropout. The S gene dropout reveals the presence of Omicron variant type is known.

On Thursday, the cluster of Coronavirus cases in the RGGGH in Chennai increased to 128. On 17th December, a patient with diabetes was admitted in this hospital for skin grafting procedure. It is revealed that from this person only the infection spread to others. As many as4000 contacts of this person including doctors, nurses, nursing students etc were tested and after testing the clusters rose to 128 in this hospital. In atleast 93 persons, S gene dropout was witnessed and they all had mild symptoms only. Point is that these people had symptoms like cold, sore throat, mild fever etc in them. Till now, no patient was affected with infection in bronchi in the lungs.

It is shocking to mention that those with mild or no symptoms are spreading infection now in public places like hospitals etc. There was also another cluster of 10 Covid-19 cases on street in Ashok Nagar Street recently where the main source was an attendee to a patient admitted to government hospital. This street in Ashok Nagar has been barricaded by GCC officers now and has been announced as contamination zone is known. As per the GCC Commissioner, Mr. Gagandeep Singh increased testing is very important. He hinted that GCC would increase random sampling in the vulnerable places in Chennai. In the coming weeks, those persons in the crowded places like markets, workplaces plus those who attend patients and visitors to the hospitals would be tested.
