In Chennai, all subways open to allow full traffic now!!

The heavy rains were responsible for the floods and due to this many subways were closed in Chennai.

Now, these subways have been opened by the GCC or Greater Chennai Corporation for the public use. In various places in Chennai, all traffic bottlenecks were cleared completely. The Madley subway and Rangarajapuram subway were also cleared by GCC. It must be noted that Mr. Gagandeep Singh, Chennai Corporation commissioner made his presence felt at several flooded places in Chennai to assess damage and to start relief work. The shocking piece of information is that as many as561 localities were flooded in Chennai from 25th November to 2nd December. Chennai received 1074mm of rain from 25th October till 2nd December.

As many as 918 pumps were used by GCC to pump out water present in 504 localities in Chennai yesterday. After water was released from the reservoirs yesterday, as many as 24 localities with 57 streets were flooded. Information collected is that due to increase in the water level people from Cooum banks in Arumbakkam in Chennai were shifted to safer places. The officers belonging to GCC distributed blankets to 150 families. Point is that more than 600 families were affected by the floods in Chennai. According to a resident belonging to Radhakrishnan Nagar in Arumbakkam it was clear that the floods have turned their lives upside down and they don’t even have utensils to buy milk or food for their kids. In the medical camps organised by GCC, moré than 16000 residents took part yesterday.
