The water stagnation including sewage on the roads has been creating many issues for the residents belonging to Washermanpet in north Chennai. There are only a few days remaining for the monsoon to start in Chennai and residents there were highly concerned about this issue. It is shocking to note that the water stagnation here has led to an increase in the mosquitoes and dengue cases.

As per a resident belonging to the Venkatachalam Street in Washermanpet it was clear that in the past sewage used to stagnate on the roads in the summer season. He added that after repeated requests the authorities took steps to give sewage connection to the houses. They also assured to relay the roads in the locality. More than 3 months have gone now, but the authorities haven’t re-laid the road here. The recent rains have resulted in the mixing of rain water with sewage water from the manhole. It is true that when the rains become more the sewage water enters the houses also. The clinics present in the Washermanpet had to be closed till water drains. It was brought out by another resident that dengue cases have increased now in the locality with increase in the mosquitoes.
