Motorists face traffic woes in Velachery inspite of the completion of MRTS works!!

Posted on: 13/Oct/2021 9:07:24 AM
The MRTS station works near Vanuvampet junction was completed 2 years back is well known to us. It is now said that the traffic woes are still there without any end. The motorists haven’t been finding it easy. Those motorists travelling towards Thillaiganga Nagar subway and Velachery would have to travel 1 km and take a roundabout because the median intersection has been barricaded.

It was in 2018, the road works first began. It must be taken into account that the straight road from Vanuvampet has been directed left at Vanuvampet junction on the Velachery GST Road. The straight road has been directed right near Sri Devi Karumari Amman Temple for travel towards Guindy.

It was mentioned by an activist Mr. Rama Rao belonging to Nanganallur that in the beginning motorists adjusted but the barricades were there despite work completing more than 2 years back. The vehicles coming from both sides use the same path and due to this reason pedestrians have been finding it difficult without any space for them. Velachery is connected to localities like Madipakkam, Adambakkam and Nanganallur by the stretch.

In the peak hours, the stretch would become busy with heavy traffic. As per another activist Mr. V. Subramani, the state highways department would soon construct a new subway (290m in length and 11m in width) at the Vanuvampet station connecting Mount-Medavakkam Road and Velachery- Alandur Road. The diversion was made by the MRTS and this was mentioned by an official belonging to the state highways department.
