Pressure cookers are being used by many of us these days for cooking is well known. The process of cooking food under a high pressure stream using water or water based cooking liquid is pressure cooking. Various advantages of pressure cooking are time saving, energy saving, less cleaning needed, foods retain most nutrients and are tastier etc.

Though it is good to cook using a pressure cooker, there are also few issues associated with it. We must not use a pressure cooker to cook all the foods but only a few foods must be cooked using this.

Not many would know that cooking starchy foods in the pressure cooker would be risky and harmful to their health in the long run. When foods like potatoes, pasta, rice etc are cooked in the pressure cooker they would release chemical acrylamide that would be harmful for the health.

Nutritious vegetables could be cooked in the pressure cooker. It must be noted that the high heat the nutrients present in the vegetables would be present inside the cooker only and not go out. This would be beneficial for our health.

The shocking truth is that when foods like potatoes, rice etc rich in starch are cooked in a pressure cooker then we might get cancer or neurological issues in us. Foods like chicken, mutton could be cooked in the pressure cooker because they would get burnt easily and could be digested easily by us. Point to be noted is that cooking mutton and chicken in pots could be tedious and time consuming.
