Bread & Chocolate, Alwarpet, Chennai

Craving for some good coffee with vegan snacks in the evening, I ride the peaceful neighbourhood of Cenotaph road to stumble upon the quietly nestled Bread and Chocolate beside the Toyota Showroom. I got reminded of my ride to their Auroville Caf and instantly wanted to check their Chennai version out!

Entering, I am welcomed by the aroma of bread thanks to their frequently shutting bakery doors and their collection of baked goodies. I look around to see vegans (no dairy strictly vegetarian) stuff like hot chocolate, vegan pasta, packed coffee, and an eclectic range of chocolates. A lot for fellow vegans to dig in here.

The menu looking like a departure arrival notice board at the airport grabs my attention and my eyes scout for a coffee machine but I am promptly interrupted saying the caf is upstairs and take the staircase as steep as a trek. I wonder how coffee-loving senior citizens would find it to climb them?

Once I reach the summit, (sorry for the exaggeration but honestly seniors could really find it difficult) my eyes are comforted by the coffee machine and the barista who was friendly enough to suggest their strong coffees. Cozy in their seating, the caf is a great place for conversations. They also have an outdoor seating area, colourful with the seating and fans to make it breezy.

The food menu is elaborate for a caf. The vegan options are quite a few but if you become a regular then youd know the names and the taste by heart. I would love to see some more vegan options been added to the menu. I ordered a Hot Flat White with Almond Milk. The barista promised me a strong coffee. To keep my mouth busy, I got a Tofu scramble which was accompanied by a slice of sourdough bread. I was not disturbed for 10 minutes and indulged in some hot strong coffee and a light tofu snack. Good quality food and not to forget a peacefully ambient place. They also have cold drips packed in a cute bottle. You should try it!

I missed taking my laptop. A comfortable place to work or even read a page or two whilst sipping some coffee.  If you are somewhere around Alwarpet or Teynampet, you should try dropping in. A good caf to chill at!
