Clean pure air is very important for us in our lives but the fact is that air pollution due to dust, smoke etc could make the air impure. This impure air could lead to a few issues in us.

To reduce the air pollution by 20% to 30% across India, the Central government has launched a national clean air programme. Information collected is that 15th Finance Commission has recommended a separate subsidy for the air quality improvement in the 42 highly populated cities belonging to India. Three major cities in Tamil Nadu like Chennai, Trichy and Madurai have been included in the list. An amount of Rs 181 crores has been allotted for Chennai city alone now by the 15th Finance Commission.

To carry out various studies regarding air pollution, the GCC or Greater Chennai Corporation has joined hands with the famous educational institution IIT Madras. It is learnt that a Memorandum of Understanding or MoU has been signed between GCC, TNPCB and IIT Madras. This signing of MoU took place on 6TH May. It is now said that this clean air project would be implemented by taking the views of the Central Pollution Control Board and GCC.

Indian institute of Technology, Madras has decided to send air quality monitoring reports plus quality analysis, quality application and compilation report to the Central Pollution Control Board.

It is learnt that the main objective behind this study to be conducted in Chennai was to evaluate the source contribution to ambient pollution and to identify the sources that would cause pollution.
