The residents belonging to the city would find a totally different and new looking Chennai in the future. Chennai city would have fountains, plants, artworks and statues made from scraps etc on the 99 meridians and traffic islands on the Chennai streets.

Under the Singara Chennai 2.0 programme, beautifying Chennai has been going on now by GCC. It is learnt that atleast 9 different projects including the mass cleaning drive have been taken up under this programme. Nine weeks back, a mass cleaning drive began in Chennai and till now 17500 tonnes of garbage and debris have been removed.

At 21000 locations in Chennai about 77000 posters were removed from the walls. Point is that art works and painting works of wall projects are ordered in 3 stretches. In addition to this, 300 public toilets have been cleaned. The residents would be able to see new parks also.

Every week, meetings are being held with the zonal officers and with regional deputy commissioners etc for getting ideas to beautify major junctions like Madhya Kailash in Adyar etc. There are also many powerpoint presentations regarding beautifying Chennai by setting up water ponds, fountains and colourful lights etc. It is now said that the GCC is trying to give the entire Chennai city a new look.

In the past, just one stretch of Pondy Bazaar was chosen for beautification is well known. Important places like Kathipara flyover, Indira Nagar, Besant Nagar and Marina have statues made of scraps. In the slums and on the roads and pavements in Chennai, many workers have been working very hard since the month of May to beautify Chennai.

Chief engineer (Roads), Mr. S. Rajendiren highlighted that GCC has been on the lookout to tie up with IT companies and other industries for CSR funds.
