The non fulfilment of demands to hike the stipend for medicos and Compulsory Rotatory Residential interns or CRRI would not be taken lightly.

It is said now that the TN Residents Doctors Association would strike work on Wednesday, 14th July. The shocking piece of information is that the state of TN has been paying the lowest stipend in the entire country.

It is learnt that the association had urged TN to increase the stipend of non-service MD/MS, DM/MCh and CRRIs on par with that with other states in India. It was later brought to light by an official statement from the TN Government Doctors Association that it was yet to receive an official statement about the stipend increase. As a result, the residents doctors belonging to TN have decided to do black badge protest on 13th July followed by a token strike on 14th July.

From 15th July 2021 onwards, there would be a boycott of services and this includes both elective as well as the emergency duties. Until the demands were met, the boycott of services would continue in TN. Information is that the students receive a stipend between Rs 37000 to Rs 47000 for different ranks. There has been a demand to make the stipend on par with those of central government colleges and those in other states.

As per Dr. Vignesh, student of general surgery at a government medical college, it was clear that the PG doctors in TN were least paid in the whole India. He added that a peaceful black badge demonstration would be taken out on 14th July in all the government medical colleges across TN.

By this demonstration, there are chances that the TN government would respond faster and in a positive manner. Till now, the demands of the PG doctors have not been formally acknowledged by the government.

For non-service MD/MS postgraduates, a stipend of atleast to 70000 to Rs 75000 and Rs 80000 per month year wise has been demanded by the students. It must be taken into note that the stipend for non-service DM/MCh super speciality PGS has been requested to be increased to atleast Rs 80000, Rs 85000 and Rs 90000 per month year wise. There has also been a demand by the students for the yearly stipend increase by 10percent. It is now revealed that the students demanded that the CRRIs stipend be raised to Rs 30000 per month from Rs 21000 per month now.
