The Coronavirus infection pandemic is not going to come to an end any time soon in Chennai!!

On Wednesday, Bengaluru based lab Instem made it clear about the first case of Delta Plus variant of SARS-CoV-2 in Chennai. The public health officials have pointed out that the patient is a nurse belonging to a private hospital in Adyar. It must be noted that she was infected with Covidf-19 in May but recovered well.

Health secretary, Mr. J. Radhakrishnan later mentioned that it was the only sample that tested positive for Delta plus. He shed light on how there are 16 other variants like Alpha and Beta but how the majority of samples were delta variants.

Truth is that there are still no large clusters or increases in the cases in the hospital where the nurse works. More details are now gathered by the Public Health department officials. It was brought to light by some health officials that while Delta and Delta plus variants (with high transmission rates) might have been in circulation in the second Covid-19 infection wave.

Bengaluru based lab, Instem has been testing samples sent from TN and as many as 1159 samples have been sent to this lab for testing till now for whole genome sequencing as recommended by the Centre.
