Chennai residents must get ready for hotter days now

Posted on: 14/Jun/2021 8:43:48 AM
The coming days could be hot and dry and the residents belonging to Chennai might feel uncomfortable!!

It is now revealed that the temperature could increase because of strong westerlies or land breeze over the coastal places of Tamil Nadu including Chennai. Now, Chennai`s climate is better with below normal day temperatures recorded. It must be noted that the IMD had predicted a maximum temperature of 37 degrees Celsius on Monday which is normal for the June month.

On Tuesday, the temperature might increase and clouds could hang in the higher altitudes and this could make the sky overcast with hot days. This was as per some weather bloggers. It was brought out by IMD that the maximum and minimum temperatures might be around 36 degrees Celsius and 28 degrees Celsius respectively. The skies would be partly cloudy in Chennai and in the suburbs for the next 24 hours. The subsequent 24 hours might have generally cloudy skies in Chennai city.

Dry westerly winds over Chennai and neighbouring districts driven by low pressure over Bay of Bengal could be the cause for the rise in the temperature in Chennai. This was pointed out by some officials. Though Saturday was mostly overcast, Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam recorded maximum temperature around 37.9 degrees Celsius and 37.4 degrees Celsius that was 1.2 degrees and 0.1 degrees above normal. On Saturday, localities such as Choolaimadeu, Aminjikarai etc witnessed light rains in the evening due to fast moving rain clouds due to sea breeze entry in the evening.
