The increase in the prices of the construction materials has been creating huge issues for many.

On Wednesday, 9th June 2021, the AIADMK coordinator and former deputy CM of TN Mr. O. Paneerselvam had asked the present Chief Minister of TN Mr. M.K. Stalin to take steps to arrest the increasing price rise.

The construction activities have been reduced in the state of TN due to the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown but the prices of materials like cement, sand, bricks, and steel etc have been increasing.

It must not be forgotten that a few months back there was also news about a huge hike in the prices of steel and it grabbed many eyeballs .From Rs 440, the cost of cement has now increased to Rs 500 to Rs 520 range. In the same manner, one unit of crushed stone that was sold for Rs 3500 has gone up to Rs 5000 per unit.

From Rs 58000 per tonne, the cost of steel has risen to Rs 72000 per tonne. The increase in the rates of building materials has made the lives of the common public very tough now. Those who are involved in building new houses or those who are repairing the present buildings are facing problems as they have been forced to spend more money. Traders and dealers would take the situation into their advantage and hold these items to make quick money. It is now said that the state government must check whether traders and dealers are holding these essential building materials or not.
