In the extended zones of GCC, growth rate of NEW COVID cases increase

For the week ending on Sunday, the average growth rate of new Coronavirus cases has come down. It is now said that in the extended zones belonging to GCC the growth rate of new cases have increased.

The growth rate in Manali zone is 15.5% and this is the lowest amongst all 15 GCC zones. Next is Tiruvottiyur zone with a growth rate of 14.9%. Manali zone had a growth rate of minus 4.8% in this week that ended on 2nd May. This has been brought to light by the data from GCC. It is well known to us that a negative or minus growth rate refers to a decrease in the number of fresh cases.

In Chennai city, the growth rate of new Covid-19 cases has been coming down when compared to last week. From 4.2% on 2nd May, the growth rate in Chennai has come down to 3.8%.Truth is that in the last week of March Chennai recorded a growth rate of 7.0%. Positive growth rate was witnessed in all GCC zones except zones like Manali, Tiruvottiyur and Tondiarpet on 2nd of May.

It must be taken into account that zones like Royapuram and Tondiarpet have got the lowest growth rate of new Covid-19 cases at 0.55 and 0.7% respectively. As many as 33406 samples were tested on Saturday in Chennai and it was the highest ever tested ever till date.

The date from GCC has revealed that 5 zones have got more than 3000 active cases and 3 zones have more than 2000 active cases.
