On 10th May, the new chief minister of TN, Mr. M.K. Stalin would be making his presence felt at the Chennai Trade Centre or CTC in Nandambakkam. He would be inaugurating 300 of the 800 oxygen supported beds that are being readied there.

It has been confirmed by a senior official belonging to GCC that beds are being readied at the trade centres Covid Care Centre or CCC.  He stated that the CM would inaugurate 300 beds at the first phase on 10th May and on 23rd May 500 more beds would be added. In the first week of May month itself, instructions were given to ramp up the oxygen beds at CTC. Moderately ill patients could also be handled in CTC due to the oxygen beds.

It must not be forgotten that throughout the week the Chennaites have been suffering from lack of oxygen beds. Point is that at any given time atleast 10 ambulances are seen waiting on the premises of the tertiary hospitals like SMCH, RGGGH and Omandurar GH etc. Information is that there are many instances of patients who have tried atleast 4 hospitals before preferring tertiary hospitals.

A Chennai resident spoke about how his wife (a covid-19 patient) was turned away by atleast 3 hospitals and then only went to SMCH. According to Dr. P. Umanath, former MD of TN medical services corporation had informed HC that TN had oxygen supply just for 2days.  The Centre not releasing the revised central oxygen allocation plan for TN was brought out by the health secretary Mr. J. Radhakrishnan.
