For ensuring punctuality and to cut down the travel time of the teachers, the government of TN is planning to build staff quarters for the government teachers.

At present, TN has got about 35000 government run schools with more than 2.25lakhs teachers working.  When compared to their counterparts in the government offices, there was no proper staff quarter scheme for the teachers in the state run schools in TN. This was highlighted by a senior official belonging to the school education department.

He threw light on how there were many teachers who travel long distances to reach the schools and how that would affect their attendance in the monsoon seasons. Truth is that the teacher’s welfare associations have been requesting the government to build staff quarters and all the education officers have been asked to identify and send the measurement of free space available on the school campuses.

The focus would be on those schools that are present in the hilly places in TN in the first phase. The staff quarters would be built as per the available space. In the second phase, rural places would be taken into consideration for building teachers quarters in the schools. Plots near the schools would be identified by the authorities in case of lack of space.
