TPR above 15% - 150 districts including Chennai to be under total lockdown

There would be a complete lockdown in the districts with high test positivity rate or TPR. This has been informed by the Union Health Ministry now. It has been brought out by the reports that the Ministry proposed complete lockdown in around 150 districts with Covid-19 positivity rate above 15percent. Chennai has got a TPR of 21.37% and could be included in the list.
On Tuesday, a high level meeting took place chaired by the Ministry. Final decision of this proposal of total lock down would be taken after the Centre discusses with the states.
A total lockdown is the need of the hour for the next few weeks (for districts with high TPR) as the number of Covid-19 cases has been increasing alarmingly. It must be noted that several states have already imposed lockdown type restrictions, weekend as well as weeklong curfews to contain the spread of this infection. Information collected is that one out of 5 tested in Chennai has got this deadly infection.
On Tuesday, GCC had tested as many as 21706 samples and out of those 4640 turned out to be Covid-19 positive with a TPR of 21.37%.This was brought to light by the data from the corporation. It was later mentioned by an officer of GCC that steps are being taken to test 25000 samples per day. In Chennai, on Sunday and on Monday the TPR was found to be 20.95% and 20.69% respectively.
It must not be forgotten that in June 2020 GCC tested just 6000 to 7000 samples per day and TPR was around 12 percent.
