Dont be surprised if you see green boxes containing Raphix Schefflera variegated (Lady Palm) plus others like Pentanus,Schefflera Variegated ( Dwarf Umbrella Plant) in the Koyambedu metro station in Chennai

For the sake of generating more oxygen plus for increasing the aesthetic appeal, CMRL or Chennai Metro Rail limited has decided to install green boxes containing sciophytes plant species.

It has been brought out by a press release from CMRL that as a pilot venture green boxes made of eco-friendly materials have been installed at the Koyambedu metro station in Chennai.

For the purpose of collecting excess water draining from the boxes, the green boxes are placed on a sand filled tray. By this, water spillage into the platform would be prevented.  Truth is that the above said plant species would absorb carbon dioxide and purify the air at the metro stations.

For the purpose of more greenery and for a sustainable ecosystem, several innovative initiatives namely creating an ecological vibrant unit in the project area is also taken up. It is now said that these would continuously help in reducing the pollution. This new venture at the Koyambedu metro station was inspected by the managing director of CMRL Mr Pradeep Yadav and other senior officials.
