Posted on: 26/Feb/2021 12:00:56 PM
For this years book fair, a new facility has been made available - visitors can avail daily passes ONLINE from the official website of the organisers of the Chennai Book Fair - BAPASI (Book Publishers and Sellers Association of India).

Thus facility has been introduced as a means prevent the crowding at the entrance and the physical issuance of tickets. Last year, only season tickets were issued online.

Chennai Book Fair this year features 800 stalls and books of 6 Lakhs Titles.

Library events have also been planned every day until 9th March.

BAPASI Vice-President Olivannan informed that all steps have been taken to ensure COVID protocols are strictly followed.

This years Chennai Book Fair was inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Government Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam on Wednesday24th February. This 44th Book Fair is being held at the Chennai Nandanam YMCA Grounds.

On the 1st day, entry was made free as several stalls were yet to be set up.

It is worthy to note here that there was a speculation that this year;s Book Fair would NOT be organised this year! The Book Fair, which is usually organised by the 2nd week of January (During the Pongal seasonal festival series of holidays), has been postponed this year to February!

The Vice-President Olivannan added further:

We have taken enormous risks in conducting the Book Fair in February. What motivated us is the response to the smaller book fairs held across the city last year. So, we ex[ected that the people were also waiting for something to happen! For genuine book-lovers, Chennai Book Fair will be a paradise!

According to the organisers, the Book Fair, the Publishing Industry was hit for the past 10 months and despite the pandemic, many have brought out new titles. Organisers expect the crowd to start coming in with the weekend. Olivannan added, We have taken all measures. Now, it is up to the Public to come and support us!

On the 1st day of the Chennai Book Fair, events to honour the publishers and the long-serving members of BAPASI were held.
