Safety priority now - TN govt not keen to reopen all the classes in a hurry

At present, there are some talks going on about the reopening of the first as well as second year classes for the students belonging to the colleges. The government has been working on several possibilities for this
It is known that the classes for the final year UG and for the first year PG students have reopened in TN. From 2nd December 2020, colleges and universities were reopened for research as well as final year students of PG courses in science and polytechnic courses. This was based on the feedback got from management for Higher Educational institutions or HEI. After a week classes began for UG final year students too. It must be remembered that some time back TN government had said that reopening of colleges for t first and second year students would be decided later.
It was mentioned by Mr. K.P. Anbalagan, Higher Education Minister, that the authorities have been looking at various ways to reopen the colleges. He later spoke about the number of students that could be accompanied per class and the possibility of taking classes on rotation basis etc.
No hurry in reopening colleges for first and second year:
The higher education minister shed light on how the TN government is not in a hurry to reopen the colleges for the first and second year students now. The safety of the students would be considered. By this, he dismissed the rumours regarding reopening of the colleges for all classes.
As per a senior official belonging to the higher education department, the colleges and universities should have reopened for the fresher’s between August and September months but remained closed due to Covid-19 pandemic issue. The government’s plan to reopen the colleges for the fresher’s and second year was postponed due to the recent spike in the Coronavirus cases in IIT-M and in Anna University. He concluded that the TN government would take a decision now about reopening of the colleges because of the reduction in the Covid19 cases plus due to the vaccination.
Mr. Pasupathy, president of AUT appreciated the government of TN studying various possibilities to reopen the colleges and said that the authorities must not be in haste to start classes as the Covid-19 pandemic was not fully contained in TN. He then shed light on how due to social distancing inside the classrooms most of them were occupied by the final year students.
