On Thursday, Greater Chennai Corporation or GCC would be finalising the allotment of shops on the famous Marina Beach. On Wednesday, the draw of the lots would take place at Amma Arangam at Shenoy Nagar.  Existing vendors would get 540 shops and the new vendors would get 360 shops. This has been mentioned in the statement from the Chennai Corporation. There would be a total of 900 shops that would be allotted and a draw of lots would be used to select the vendors.

For the sake of allocating smart- carts for the selected 900 vendors, the civic body would be holding a draw of lots on Thursday. The existing shops on the sands of Marina Breach would be removed as per the High Court of Madras order and 900 shops would be allowed.  Truth is that an order has been issued to allocate 40percent of the shops to new vendors. The civic body has stated that the allocation of shops would be based on the orders of the SC on special leave petition and that of the High Court of Madras.

Vendors who are running shops now have submitted 1351 applications and those who are interested to open their shops have submitted as many as 14827 applications.
