In TN, NO entry to beaches, zoos etc for the Pongal festival

On Tuesday, the TN government issued an order restricting the public from going to tourist spots in Chennai and in Chengalpet districts for 3 day Pongal holidays from 15th January to 17th January. The order was issued for the purpose of controlling the Covid-19 infection from spreading.
It was mentioned in the GO that during the Pongal holidays there would be a possibility of Coronavirus spreading in Vandalur Anna Zoological Park, tourist destinations in Mahabalipuram, Guindy based National Park and in Marina Beach as many people would be thronging these spots with their families and friends. To avoid the spread of Covid-19 infection, the above mentioned places would be closed for the public between 15th to 17th January.
From 1st of December 2020, the TN government has opened up tourist places for public. It is well known that these places were closed down from March to control Covid-19 infection. On 14th December, Marina Beach was opened for the public but public entry was not allowed in this beach on 1st January due to issues regarding overcrowding. Every year on the Kaanum Pongal day people throng various tourist spots to have fun. In Chennai, places like Marina Beach, Mahabalipuram etc would witness huge crowds.
It is worthy to mention here that in TN the festival of Pongal is celebrated for a period of 3 days namely Pongal, Mattu Pongal and Kaanum Pongal. The cows and bulls are worshipped on Mattu Pongal day and in many places in TN games like Jallikattu and bull races would grab the attention of many. Green light has been given by the TN government for Jallikattu or bull taming but with strict protocols is known to us. The restriction has been extended by the TN government on all the 3 days of Pongal festival due to Coronavirus infection and also due to the new mutant strain.
