Coronavirus vaccination in Tamil Nadu for citizens above 18 years of age

The Chief Secretary for the Department of Health of the State Government of Tamil Nadu, Radhakrishnan, informed that the coronavirus vaccine administration will be administered to citizens above 18 years of age. The vaccination on a trial basis will be undertaken throughout the State of Tami Nadu on Friday, 8th January.

The Chief Secretary of Heath, after undertaking an inspection/survey at the National Medicine godown in Chennai Metro City Periamet the area had a session with the –press reporters and shared:

“As per the Chief Minister’s order, all arrangements are in progress on a war-footing for the trial administration of the coronavirus vaccine. The trial has already been conducted in 17 vaccination centres in 5 districts. Similarly, the trial administration of the coronavirus vaccine is scheduled to be conducted in all the districts on Friday, 8th January. During this trial vaccination, the review will be undertaken on various aspects such as the waiting rooms, vaccination room, and monitoring room designs, Trial will also be undertaken regarding the administration of the coronavirus vaccine at 100 citizens per day on the time taken, and the facilities required for administering the vaccination.

The activities for the vaccination on behalf of the State Government of |Tami Nadu had already been initiated during June 2020 and 51 locations are ready with the cold storage facility to keep the 17 Lakhs vaccines presently available. In the 1st Phase of this task, the central government has allotted 33 Lakhs vaccines for the State of Tamil Nadu. Out of this, 28 lakhs vaccines have already arrived. These would be distributed district wise.

Once the central government delivers the vaccines, the task of administering the vaccines will be taken up from the next day itself and executed based on a war-footing |(at full swing). On this front, in the first phase, 6 lakhs field employees will be administered with the vaccination. Vaccination will be administered at the rate of 100 citizens per day in the 2850 centres set up. Necessary storage arrangements have already been arranged to store 2.50 Crores vaccines.

Further, while administering the coronavirus vaccines for all citizens above 18 years of age, priority will be given to the senior citizens. As regards the administration of the coronavirus vaccine for children and pregnant women, this issue will be reviewed with an expert medical council.”
