Posted on: 03/Dec/2020 12:18:58 PM
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has informed that a new low-pressure format is developing over the South Andaman Sea.

The low-pressure format which developed over the Bay of Bengal last month (November), transformed into a depression zone, intensified further and transformed into a cyclone. This cyclone has been named Burevi.

The cyclone Burevi crossed the coasts yesterday (Wednesday, 2nd December) near Thirikonamalai in Sri Lanka.  It is expected that this cyclone Burevi is likely to cross the coast between Pamban and Kanyakumari early morning today at 4.00 AM (Thursday, 4th December).

In this situation, IMD (Indian Meteorological Department) has now informed that there are strong prospects of another new low-pressure zone to be developed over the South Andaman. IMD has informed that due to the cyclonic format developed in the upper layers of the atmosphere near the Malay Peninsula, there are prospects of a new depression zone to be developed over there.

It is noteworthy at this juncture that with 2 low-pressure zones forming intensifying and transforming into severe cyclones Nivar and Burevi, this formation of another low-pressure zone is the 3rd one in recent times!
