Chennai city colleges gearing up to reopen campuses for PG, research students etc now

The colleges in the Chennai city have been closed to control the spread of Covid-19 spread and online classes have been going on in full flow for the students. From 2nd December, the city based colleges would reopen again for the post graduate or PG science and technology students and for the research students. Before attending in-person classes, it is necessary for the boarding students to undergo 14 days of quarantine. This was according to the guidelines issued by UGC.

It has been mentioned by some sources in many colleges that the parents of the majority of students were not willing to send their wards to the colleges. This was due to the fear of contacting Covid-19 infection.

The online classes for the UG second and third year students and for the PG final year students have been completed by many educational institutes now. From next week onwards, online semester examinations would begin and some colleges have plans to allow post graduate students inside the campuses only from the next semester. 

It was mentioned by the principal of Loyola College in Chennai, Mr. Thomas Amirtham that the college management was having plans to let the research students from 2nd of December. He revealed that the Loyola College has been planning to conduct semester exams for UG as well as for PG students from the first week of December month.

It has been brought to light by a survey that 65% of the parents were not willing to send their wards to the colleges for in-person classes. Information is that the heads of the departments of the Loyola College have been consulted regarding the reopening of campus from next semester. By this, ideas about different ways to conduct classes, practical classes and maintenance of social distancing etc would be achieved. The principal threw light on the expensive single occupancy hostel rooms.
