Nivar cyclone format at 430 km distance from Chennai!

The Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre has informed that the cyclone Nivar has stabilized at a distance of 430 km from the Chennai Metro City.

The Director of the Chennai Meteorological Centre, S. Balachandran, shared with the press:

“Presently, the cyclone Nivar is located at a distance of 380 km in the south/southeast direction from Puducherry, and at a 430 km distance from Chennai.

It has presently started drifting at 5km per hour. In the next 12 hours, it will transform into a severe cyclone and in the subsequent 12 hours, the cyclone Nivar will transform into an extremely severe cyclone.

It will drift towards the northwest direction and will cross the coast tomorrow afternoon (Wednesday, 25th November) between Karaikkal and Mamallapuram. Subsequently, high-speed winds at 120 to 130 kmph will blow in those areas. At times, the speed of the wind may even cross 145 kmph intermittently.

Further, when the cyclone Nivar crosses the coast, high-speed winds at 129 to 130 to 145 kmph in Nagappattinam, Karaikkal, Mayiladuthurai, Cuddalore, Puducherry, Villupuram, and Chengalpattu districts.

In similar way, high-speed winds at 80-90 kmph will blow in the districts of Chennai and Thiruvallur.

As regards the Chennai Metro City, there are prospects for heavy to very heavy rains.”
