Cyclone Nivar: likely to cross Tamil Nadu, Puducherry coasts on 25th November!

Even as the Cyclone Nivar is moving in a westerly direction towards north Sri Lanka and south Tamil Nadu coast, the coastal areas of the southern state are expected to receive heavy rains for 4 days from 23rd November 23 to 26th November.

Cyclone Nivar, which is brewing in the Bay of Bengal, is likely to make landfall between Mamallapuram (Tamil Nadu) and Karaikkal (Puducherry) on 25th November. Cyclone Nivar is expected to bring in heavy to extremely heavy rains in Rayalaseema and the south coastal Andhra Pradesh districts on 25th November and 26th November. Visakhapatnam and East Godavari districts are also likely to receive heavy downpour.

It is very likely to intensify into a depression over southwest Bay of Bengal during next 24 hours and subsequently, further intensify into a cyclonic storm during the next 24 hours. It is very likely to drift towards the northwest and cross Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts between Karaikkal and Mahabalipuram around 25th November.

As Cyclone Nivar is moving in a westerly direction towards north Sri Lanka and south Tamil Nadu coast, the coastal areas of the southern state are expected to receive heavy rain between 23rd and 26th November. As heavy rainfall has been predicted, six teams of NDRF have left for Cuddalore and Chidambaram towns in Cuddalore district to assist in relief measures.
