Posted on: 27/Oct/2020 9:15:15 AM
The joy of bursting crackers during diwali cannot be expressed in words!!

At this time of Coronavirus pandemic, this news would make many Chennai residents feel delighted. The Coronavirus pandemic has hit the cracker business and this would result in the 15% to 20% drop in the prices in the Chennai city. The sales of crackers are expected to plunge by half this time.

There would just be 40 cracker shops at the Island Grounds in Chennai this year that is a decrease by 30 when compared to 2019. Georgetown based wholesale cracker traders and retail traders in the rest of Chennai are in a confused state now.  It has been mentioned that the traders planning to set up stalls at the Island Grounds have reduced their orders from Sivakasi.

It must be taken into account that Chennai accounts for the sale of 10percent of total production of fire crackers at Sivakasi. As per Mr. Abdul Rahman, joint secretary, Chennai Fireworks Welfare Association, the prices would fall by 15 to 20 percent this year due to Coronavirus infection pandemic.

He pointed out that the charges for the stalls at Island Grounds would be on par with last year as the TN government has fixed the bidding price of Rs 90 lakhs for an area of about 1lakh square feet. It is revealed that the sheds would be erected separately and it would cost more.

The manufacturers have decided to supply fireworks at lesser prices this year so that their stocks would not be left unsold. This was according to Mr. Kondasami of Sri Sapthagiri Pyro Works of Sivakasi. He spoke about how in the pandemic situation nobody wants their goods to be left unsold. The reason for that is the manufacturers would have to wait for another year to market their products.
