It is that time of the year when people in Chennai step out of their houses frequently for shopping or to meet their relatives and friends etc. Yes, we are talking about the navratri and deepavali festival season in ChennaI.

Near the Madras High Court is present NSC Bose Road and this is an important place in north Chennai with lots of shops etc. The news now is that huge crowds thronged various shops and markets present in NSC Bose Road in Chennai for shopping on Saturday ahead of navratri and deepavali festivals. It is revealed that the main road and the interior road here were full of traffic with many people and vehicles.

The people were so happy due to the festival season and they forgot to wear facemasks and maintain physical distancing. It is a well known fact that wearing facemasks and maintaining physical distancing are the two most important things to follow in this Coronavirus infection pandemic.

It must be recalled that during Onam in Kerala many did not follow these rules and this led to an increase in the number of Coronavirus cases there. The GCC officials have been warning the residents and shopkeepers to avoid crowds in Chennai for this reason. It seems that the warning by GCC has fallen in the deaf ears. It was brought to light by a senior GCC officer that they have been expecting huge crowds in the festive season and they have organised regular awareness camps.

He then spoke about how no drastic steps were taken and how regular enforcement activities by the teams headed by assistant engineers at every ward level was there. It must be noted that every sanitary inspector has been issued powers to shut down the shops if they violated the rules. The important information is that in Chennai the number of Coronavirus cases have reduced and the herd immunity might have set in.
