In Chennai, the number of active COVID cases has increased more than 2000 in just 11 days

For the last 11 days, more than 1000 Coronavirus positive cases are being reported in Chennai city. It is now revealed that the number of active cases have become more than 2400 in Chennai.

On 23rd September, Chennai had just 9868 active cases and since then Chennai had more than 1000 daily cases and in just 11 days the number of active cases went to 2415. On Sunday, the number of active Coronavirus cases stood at 12283. This was according to a bulletin from the state health department.

The data from the GCC had put that there are more than 1000 active cases in zones like Thiru Vi- Ka Nagar, Anna Nagar, Teynampet, Kodambakkam and Adyar. Fact is that the Alandur zone has got just 665 active cases and this is just 10 percent of the total active cases that have been reported till now.

An official belonging to the GCC pointed out that the containment measures have been going on and have given instructions to the field officers to be stricter in ensuring social distancing and wearing facemasks etc. Every day, more than 12000 samples are being tested by the GCC. The increase in the Coronavirus active cases have even led to the GCC converting some streets into containment areas is well known now. 

It must be recollected that earlier when there was dip in the fresh cases the containment zones were removed by the civic body. Now, Alandur zone alone has got 4 containment zones. There has been increasing growth of new Coronavirus cases due to spike in the cases.

Few weeks back, Chennai had less than zero percent average growth of active Coronavirus cases and this has risen to 2.7 % now. Twelve out of 15 GCC zones have positive growth rates. Zones like Sholinganallur, Valasaravakkam and Perungudi have negative growth rates. 

In the Tiruvottiyur zone, the growth of new cases is highest now with 9.6%. There are 344 new cases in this zone in north Chennai and that is 7% of the total active cases. As many as 3274 persons have died due to Coronavirus infection in Chennai till now.
