Posted on: 24/Sep/2020 9:10:29 AM
Just a day has gone after Union education minister Mr. Ramesh Pokhriyal announced that classes for the university freshers would begin from 1st of November 2020.

The news now is TN state government has decided to get feedback from the parents, faculties and students regarding reopening of the colleges. Information gathered is feedback and suggestions from the parents, faculties and students would be taken into consideration by the expert committee.

It is common knowledge that an expert committee was formed by the Higher Education Department to look into the academic loss. Truth is a report would be prepared by the expert committee regarding reopening of the colleges. Educationists as well as academicians could also give their suggestions about reopening the colleges in TN. This was as per a senior official belonging to the Directorate of Higher Education.

He added that principals and vice-chancellors would also be asked to give their suggestions regarding college reopening as they would know better about the campus scenario. The suggestions and feedback could be sent to the departments website.

It is not compulsory to reopen higher education institutions from 1st November as announced by the Union Minister. This was also mentioned by the senior official. Fact is that the centre would allow the state to decide on reopening of the higher educational institutions as per the situation. He concluded that the TN state government was not in a hurry to reopen the educational institutions unless normalcy was restored.

Before taking any decision on reopening of the higher educational institutions, the TN government must make sure that the spread of Coronavirus was under control. This was brought out by the AUT or Association of University Teachers. According to Mr. N. Pasupathy, president of AUT, safety of the students must be given priority and the government must not take any decision in haste.
