More than 600 dengue cases reported in Chennai till now

Chennai residents have been facing issues not only due to Coronavirus infection but also due to dengue fever. This has been brought to light by GCC.

Information is that the GCC has informed Madras High Court that in Chennai city beginning from January 2019 till now as many as 625 confirmed dengue cases have been reported. Point is various households where the dengue cases were reported were inspected and steps have been taken to contain dengue fever issues.

It is worth mentioning that advocate Mr. A.P.Suryaprakasam has moved a plea seeking measures to control the spread of dengue in the Chennai municipal limits. A query was put forth by the first bench consisting of Chief Justice A.P. Sahi and Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy on the above plea. It is now said that the submission was in response to the query.

These 625 dengue fever cases were distributed throughout the Chennai city in all the zones and they were not found in clusters in any defined area. This was according to the submission made by Mr. Madhusudhan Reddy, joint commissioner.

It was mentioned by the counter that through field surveys as well as IDSP or Integrated Disease Surveillance Project fever cases get notified to the concerned zonal health authorities on a daily basis. The purpose was to initiate containment measures against dengue at the earliest. 

The official belonging to GCC made it clear that the deaths of 2 kids that took place in Maduravoyal and in east Mogappair were due to the presence of co-morbid conditions. He explained how the Chennai Corporation has been divided into sectors and each sector containing 500 to 600 houses approximately.

To carry out anti-larval measures and source reduction activities by undertaking house-to-house, each sector has been allotted one worker. At present in Chennai, as many as1243 permanent workers and 2182 contract workers have been involved in dengue or mosquito control activities.
