TN Government Revises Order: Even temporary women employees to be granted maternity leave!

Amendments have been in the government order on maternity leave to grant maternity leave even for the temporary (married) women employees working in Tamil Nadu state Government organizations for a maternity leave period of 9 months.

In a notification released in this regard by the Secretary of the Tamil Nadu State Government Employment and Administration Reforms Department, Swarna, it is mentioned:

“The maternity leave, earlier permitted for 6 months for the married women employees in the permanent cadre in Tamil Nadu State Government Organisations was revised as 9 months.

Now, this concession is being offered to the temporary women employees (married) working in various Tamil Nadu State Government Organisations.

Whenever there is an emergency situation in any of the Tamil Nadu State government Departments/organizations, employees are being recruited on a temporary basis. Women employees are also included in this temporary employed category.

When these temporary women employees go on maternity leave, the concerned Department Officer can grant maternity leave, if it does not exceed 270 days (9 months) with full pay for this period. However, the concerned woman employee must have completed at least 1-year service.

Further, this concession is given to women with less than 2 children and the women who had given birth to twins in their 1st pregnancy. However, such maternity leave will not be applicable in case of adopting a child.”
