As many as 16 locations have been identified as hotspots by NHAI or National Highway Authority of India. This is along the Tambaram - Tindivanam section of Chennai - Trichy highway and along the Poonamallee - Sriperumbudur stretch of the Chennai - Bengaluru highway.

It has been brought out that as a part of short term black spot rectification works, NHAI would undertake remedial steps in 14 locations along the Tambaram - Tindivanam stretch.

Tambaram - Tindivanam stretch is one of the busiest stretches in TN and it witnesses heavy traffic all throughout the day. Nazarthpet and Thandalam junctions along the Chennai - Bengaluru highway would also have similar types of remedial measures soon. Point is NHAI has invited 2 bids at a cost of Rs 1.79 crores for Tambaram - Tindivanam stretch and Rs 49 lakhs for the Poonamallee - Sriperumbudur stretch.

There would be many short term measures like providing road studs, cautionary signboards, road crossings, pedestrian signboards, mandatory signboards, etc and this was revealed by a senior officer belonging to NHAI. In 7 out of 14 locations in the Tambaram - Tindivanam stretch along the Chennai - Trichy highway, there would be high mast lights.

He added that waiting lanes would be constructed to prevent accidents.  Speed breakers would be there on the Nazarathpet - Thandalam junctions along Poonamallee - Sriperumbudur stretch.
