Most number of Coronavirus active cases in Kodambakkam zone, worst recovery rate amongst all GCC zones

In the initial stages, north Chennai especially Royapuram zone, Tondiarpet zones etc were the hotspot for Coronavirus infection. The  working as well as poor belonging to these areas were given huge importance. 

Now, the focus has shifted to middle class neighbourhoods belonging to central Chennai especially Kodambakkam.

It is said that Kodambakkam zone has got the most number of Coronavirus active cases and the recovery rate in this zone has been worst when compared to other zones belonging to GCC.

It was later brought out by an official belonging to the civic body that the heavy population and due to a large number of slums areas Coronavirus cases in Royapuram zone and Tondiarpet zone increased very fast.

To control the spread of this infection, CIP or community intervention programmes were organised by GCC in many areas. He explained about the presence of many Coronavirus positive cases now emerging from the middle class neighbourhoods such as Kodambakkam zone, Anna Nagar zone and Teynampet zone etc.

It is worth mentioning that Kodambakkam zone has emerged as the worst affected zone in GCC. As on Monday morning there were 2497 active cases out of the total 17,489 active cases present in Chennai city. From the data belonging to the Chennai Corporation, it is clear that Kodambakkam zone has also got the worst recovery rate of 70% amongst all the zones of GCC.

Till Sunday, Chennai city had as many as 278 containment zones and as many as 134 are present in Kodambakkam zone. Important information is Kodambakkam zone has also got the highest growth rate of new Coronavirus cases and it is minus 4.2. Chennai city on the whole has got a growth rate of new cases of minus 7.2. In the beginning, the Koyambedu wholesale market that falls within this zone was the reason behind the increase in the Coronavirus cases.
