Chennai and TN to have to have thunderstorms in many places

Posted on: 10/Jul/2020 9:43:15 AM
From 13th of July, there would be intense rainfall in the state of TN. This has been predicted by the Indian Meteorological Department or IMD. There would be many places in TN that would receive thunderstorms. Light to moderate rainfall would be there in the interior and in the coastal districts of TN for the next 2 days.

The light to moderate rains in TN would be due to the connectivity activity and this was according to the officials. In TN, many districts received rains in the last 24 hours ending 8:30 am on Thursday 9th July 2020. The highest amount of rainfall in the day was received at  Madurai south with 8cm of rain. Beginning from Sunday, the thunderstorm activity would be picking up.

Mr. S. Balachandran, deputy director general of meteorology, expressed his thoughts. He explained about how for the next 2 days in Chennai the sky would be generally cloudy and how in the evening/night few places in Chennai would have chances of thunderstorms. This weather pattern might be there for a few more days.

It is worth mentioning here that the south west monsoon trough is expected to move towards the foothills of Himalayas after 12th July. There might be more rainfall activity in the southern peninsular region. Northern parts of India might have weak monsoon conditions and this might trigger the development of thunderstorms in the state of TN.

It is now revealed that from 13th July the number of places that record light to moderate amounts of rains up t4cm might be more. It is the connective activity that is responsible for this rainfall. This was as per Mr. Balachandran.

The officials have mentioned that TN till now has recorded 8.1cm rainfall that is 13% more than the average for the season since 1st of June.
