Latest news is at all the construction sites belonging to the 15 zones GCC would launch mobile medical units. It is said that atleast 10,000 construction sites of nonhigh rise buildings and at least 1000 sites of high rise buildings would have mobile medical units.
It is known that the number of workers has reduced at the construction sites and GCC has planned to launch 15 mobile medical units in the first phase. Once when the workers come back from their natives, then the construction sites would become COVID hotspots. This was pointed out by some officials. Point is mobile medical units would concentrate only on these construction workers. It is estimated that there is 1.5 lakh of construction workers in Chennai.
For the sake of deputing more doctors for the mobile medical units, Directorate of Public Health or DPH has been requested by the civic body. It was explained by an official belonging to GCC an additional 10 doctors were requested for the mobile units The Chennai Corporation would recruit nurses, technicians, and other staff on contract.
As per Mr. G. Prakash, Chennai Corporation commissioner, it was clear that fever surveillance has been increased by utilizing more volunteers. He highlighted that the doubling time for the active cases is 18 days and it was an improvement.
Information collected is workers have been permitted to use all facilities for free and this was according to a senior Corporation official. He concluded that the workers who show symptoms would be tested and quarantined for 14 days.
