The drivers and office assistants working in the Secretariat in Chennai have become the talk of the town now for this reason.

It is believed that these persons have been responsible for the spreading of Coronavirus infection to atleast 4 government department offices of the Secretariat.

As per a senior government official, it was clear that one in every 5 staff at the Namakkal Kavignar Maaligai is either positive or they have been advised to be under home based quarantine.

It is worthy to note that this building has got more than 15 departments and out of these Industries, Information, Revenue and Local administration have been affected badly by Coronavirus infection. He added that major departments such as Finance, Public Health and Industries need more space for social distancing.

There are few departments like Tamil Development, Labour, Social Welfare and Transport and these could work remotely. There are not many activities in these above said departments. A government driver expressed his views. He spoke about how the pressure on the drivers has become more in the absence of public transport. This has led to the spreading of Coronavirus among the drivers.

It has been brought to light that the Public Health Department has been worst affected in the Secretariat. The departments that have been least affected are Public Works Department, Labour, Tamil Development and Environment and Forests. Information is Secretariat has capped the manpower at 365 percent and it also gave relaxation to pregnant women and those above 55 years of age.
