Kasimedu fishing harbour in north Chennai is very busy with many activities now.

It is now said that in another few days a temporary retail fish market would be making its presence felt inside the Kasimedu fishing harbour. For the purpose of maintaining social distancing among the vendors as well as buyers, the stalls are being marked now. Mechanised boat owners have requested the government to ensure facilities fir retail sales. The setting up of retail fish market here comes after the requests.

Without a space for retail sales, landing boats would not be able to sell their catch. This was according to Mr. M.E. Raghupathi boat owner. Steps must be taken by the department as well as by the Chennai Corporation for opening fish markets in Chennai. He added that physical distancing should be compulsory.

For housing over 150 retail vendors, the department is involved in the construction of a permanent structure. It is known that these retail vendors had to move because of Ennore Manali Port Road Improvement Project.

An official later spoke about how being constructed as a part of Rs 10.5 crores project the permanent structure would have electricity plus water and drainage facilities etc. He hinted that in about a month of time it would be ready.
