The epidemiologists have made it clear that the state of Tamil Nadu must test atleast 18,000 samples per day for the purpose of flattening the Coronavirus epidemic curve. Point is atleast 10,000 people from Chennai and 8000 from the rest of TN must be tested per day. In the last week, on an average, 11,300 persons were tested in TN.

Every day, Chennai has been doing 40 percent of the tests. It is well known that Chennai has about two-thirds of Coronavirus cases in TN.

As per Prabhdeep Kaur, DD of ICMR-NIE, Chennai has to test 100 people per lakh population. She added that Chennai city must test 10,000 persons as per the trend and atleast 18,000 persons must be tested every day in TN.

Migrants from other countries and states must also be tested compulsorily. It has been mentioned by some experts that as the testing increases the caseload would also increase. Even as aggressive testing continues, the numbers would decline after reaching the peak.

Mr. P. Kuganandham, former city health officer explained how the number of cases would decrease organically without reducing the number of persons being tested. Vulnerable populations would be protected by testing and isolating positive cases. This would lead to a reduction in the number of deaths also. He hinted about asymptomatic persons spreading Coronavirus to others in the society.

The Government panel of medical experts has explained the CM of TN Mr. E. Palaniswami about increasing the testing for identifying and treating people in the early stages itself. They even revealed that unless the testing gets increased by the end of June, Chennai would have 2 lakh Covid-19 cases and more than 1400 would have lost their lives due to Corona infection.

Chennai is among the few states in India that test aggressively and this was according to Mr. C. Vijayabhaskar, state health minister.
