Thirumazhisai has been making huge noises now. From Today, 11th May, more than 200 wholesale markets would start functioning at Thirumazhisai.

It is well known that the vegetable markets have been shut down for the last few days due to the threat of Corona virus infection. This has resulted in the hike in the vegetable prices.

Recently, Koyambedu wholesale market was closed down as it emerged as the cluster spreading the Corona virus infection to other districts in TN. The market has been shifted to Thirumazhisai.

As per Mr. P. Sukumaran, secretary of Koyambedu Wholesale Merchants Association, the wholesale traders moving to Thirumazhisai were not satisfied about the basic facilities at the new market. He hinted that works like providing power supply were going on and it would take couple of days to get completed. This market would start receiving vegetable loads by tonight. Point is the loads received would be limited as Chennai has got more Corona virus positive cases and less number of workers.

He then explained that all the vendors have been tested and those who tested negative would be allowed to sell vegetables from Monday. The prices of vegetables would come down in another 2 days.

The new market at Thirumazhisai would function from 10 pm to 10 am and between 10 pm and 12 in midnight loads would be supplied. By 8 am, the traders have been instructed to stop the sales. It must be taken into account that the market would be closed at 10 am. At this new market, social distancing norms would be strictly implemented.
