The issue regarding e-waste is a serious one!!

E-waste or electronic waste refers to discarded electrical or electronic devices is known. It is said that in the developing nations informal processing of electronic wastes could result in adverse human health issues and environmental pollution issues etc.

The truth is a social enterprise that was established with the aim of solving the waste management issue has joined hands with Chennai city schools.

Till date, through the 5 months long Karo Sambhav School Programme that started in 2019 as many as 6300 students (studying from classes 5 to 10) belonging to as many as 21 schools in Chennai have come together and collected 300 kg of electronic waste. The above-said programme tool kit has been used by the students and they have reached out to the nearby communities to collect their e-wastes.

For the sake of raising awareness regarding the proper disposal of e-waste, parents and other stakeholders participated. To tackle the issue of electronic waste at the ground level, the school programme is aimed at creating awareness and driving long term behavioural change among students. This was according to Mr Pranshu Singhal, founder of Karo Sambhav programme.

He explained how the students are the building blocks for the society and how the programme aims at inspiring the students to adopt preventive environmental strategies in their daily lives.

The school teachers spoke about how it enabled student and communities to learn about e-waste management.  This Karo Sambhav is present in 29 states and in 3 Union Territories in India.
