Just think about this situation!!  Getting trapped in the disaster-hit area and then finding that communicating the information to the relief task forces is difficult. The truth is nobody in their dreams also would want to face this type of situation in their lives.

The superb information is there is some hope now for those who get trapped in the disaster-hit areas. Point to be noted is 4 students belonging to IIT Madras have built drones that could identify people trapped in the disaster-hit areas and communicating the information to the relief task forces for action would be possible by these drones.

Information collected is these drones named ’Eye in the Sky’ are artificial intelligence and computer vision-enabled and could detect persons partially buried in the debris by using swarm intelligence modules.

It is worthy to note here that the technology was developed by these IITM students based on the past data on disaster management. Recently at the IIT Bombay, the Indian innovation Growth Programme University Challenge took place is known. It is superb to mention that this team of IITM students won the finals and caught the attention of many. Not only that, this IITM team was among the top 18 innovative start-ups from across India and it would get Rs 10lakhs as equity led the funding.  It must be noted that the IITM student team also won the Microsoft AI for Earth grant.

The innovation was based on the futuristic disruptive technologies and this was later confirmed by Lt Gen (Retd) Mr. P.R. Shankar, team’s faculty advisor and Professor of Practice, department of aerospace engineering IITM. He expressed how this would be a powerful tool for saving lives and providing succour during disaster relief and humanitarian aid operations. The superb information is with further marginal development drones could also be used in surveillance operations.

It was later brought out that the innovation team has been working with NDMA and Armed Forces for developing and deploying indigenous technologies for totally Indian solutions to Indian problems. Information is an end to end drone start-up solution that would be made and it could be used by any disaster response force of the world.
