TN Police and fire department to have body worn cameras and drones soon

Use of technology in our daily lives has become very common these days.  It is well known that the police department, fire and rescue services department plays a huge role in our lives. The policemen are involved in the maintenance of law and order whereas the men from the fire department save the lives of people involved in the fire accidents.

Information collected is TN police department would buy body worn cameras and drones for maintaining law and order. In the same way, fire and rescue services department would buy drones for aerial survey of the fire accidents. This has been confirmed by the chief minister of TN, Mr. E. Palaniswami on Friday, 19th July 2019 at the assembly. Point to be noted is the chief minister explained the use of body worn cameras and drones in the demand for grants for the home department.

Not many would be aware of the fact that the chief minister also holds the police and fire rescue portfolios. He threw light on how atleast Rs 1 crore would be sanctioned to buy 10 body worn cameras for the 20 law and order units in cities and districts. Chief Minister revealed that police commissionerates and ranges would be provided with 16 drones at a cost of Rs 38 lakhs.

In the last year, TN police caught the attention of many after it had introduced body worn cameras for the traffic personnel. It is said that an amount of Rs 1 crore would be spent in purchasing 50 drones and this would be for the aerial survey of fire accidents and rescue services. An amount of Rs 12 crores would be spent in buying one aerial ladder platform of 54 metres by the fire and rescue service department. Information is protective gear would be provided for the 1500 fire personnel at a cost of Rs 8.54 crores.

The chief minister of TN, Mr. E. Palaniswami, also made few other announcements and they were archiving digitised records of police headquarters at a cost of Rs 5.10 crores, automation of police fleet and asset management at a cost of Rs 25 lakhs, implementation of e-beat system in all police commissionerates at a cost of Rs 1.26 crores, Finally the chief minster revealed that at the cost of Rs 91.74 lakhs a cyber wing would be formed in Tiruppur. It is worthy to note that TN police department is 150 years old and is the fifth biggest state police force in India.
