In this year, there are fewer top scorers among the state board class 12 students is known.  The information that has come out now is because of the presence of fewer top scorers the engineering cut-offs has now come down by 4 marks to 25 marks at various levels this time.

On Thursday, 20th June 2019, higher education minister, Mr. Anbalagan grabbed the attention of many when he released the engineering rank list of the students.  It should be noted that a total of 133,116 students have applied to the counselling but 104.406 students attended the certificate verification procedure. The truth is now 103,150 students have been found eligible for the counselling.

Chennai city based G. Aravind made many heads turn with his sensational performance. He scored 200 out of 200 and got the first rank. The second rank went to a student named Harishprabu of Karur and he too got 200 out of 200. Point to be noted here is in the top 10 ranks as many as 7 students were from state board and 2 were from CBSE and the remaining one student belonged to other state board. It is now revealed that the students belonging to the state board might have to face stiff challenge from the CBSE students.

The higher education minister then spoke about how online engineering counselling would be used to fill up atleast 85 percent of the engineering seats. He shed light on how the varsity has cut down as many as 270 seats belonging to the university departments due to lack of takers.

It was later mentioned by a career consultant, Mr. Jayaprakash Gandhi, that in 2019 the cut-off marks for engineering has come down by 4 to 25 marks at various levels and it was as per the expectations. He highlighted that in this 2019 as many as 560 students have scored more than 194 marks and the same number of students scored 198.5 above in 2018. Information is those students who have scored around 140 to 160 marks could give preference to better engineering colleges.

Mr Jayaprakash Gandhi explained how those students who have got around 140 to 160 marks are in advantageous situation now and they could hope to get into some good colleges. He then hinted that it would affect the below average colleges as the students might not join these colleges. It is worthy to note that the online traffic was high and as a result of this the server of TNEA committee was down. This happened as soon as the engineering rank list was uploaded. In the afternoon it was back to the normal. Information collected is inspite of 2.24 lakh sanctioned seats available in the state of TN the government would conduct counselling for just 1.72 lakh seats.
