A new condition that no petrol will be supplied to the 2-wheeler owners not wearing helmets! This will be implemented on 1st July!

Tamil Nadu is holding the top place in the list of maximum road accidents in the states in India. The most prominent reason for the loss of lives in road accidents is the failure to wear helmets.

In this situation, a meeting was conducted in Tejpur, Assam, by the district road safety council yesterday (Wednesday, 19th June) at the Office Complex of the Assistant Commissioner. A decision was taken during the meeting to intensify the extent of punishment for the 2-wheeler drivers without helmet!

Further, the rule No helmet? No fuel! will be implemented throughout the district and accordingly, the Assistant Commissioner asked the DTO to release the relevant orders.

All the petrol bunks in the district will not supply petrol to the 2-wheeler drivers without wearing helmets.

The Assistant Commissioner strongly recommended the formation of an Additional Monitoring Council to analyse and identify the reasons for the increasing number of road accidents.

In the road accidents which occurred during the year 2018, there has been the loss of lives of 11236. Out of this, statistics reveal that that 50% 0f the loss of lives is due to not wearing helmets while driving.

Though the Tamil Nadu State government and the Traffic Police department have put in efforts to create strong awareness on this issue and importance to wear helmets, a majority of 2-wheeler drivers just ignore them!

The Police department and the traffic police department in Tamil Nadu are also reviewing whether to implement the No helmet? No petrol! rule throughout Tamil Nadu!
