The Chennai High Court has ordered on Friday (14th June) the postpone of the enquiry by the Madurai Court Branch of the case related disrespect of court in the issue regarding academic fees as the state government of Tamil Nadu had requested for a time extension.

The Tamil Nadu Academic Fees Determination Committee fixed the academic fees of the private schools for the academic year 2017-18. However, the Committee did not fix the academic fees for the years 2018-21.

Because of this, the various 7600 private schools functioning in the state of Tamil Nadu have fixed the academic fees of their own charging higher fees more than recommended by the committee.

Subsequently, Hakim from Madurai had filed a petition that the academic fees fixed by the above committee for the years 2018-21 must be released immediately.
When it took up the enquiry of this petition earlier, the High Court had ordered that the details of the Academic Fees decided by the Committee must be released both online (internet) and in newspapers.

However, this order has not been carried out yet! In this situation, Hakim from Madurai had filed a petition that immediate action must be taken on the Tamil Nadu Academic Fees Determination Committee for dishonouring the court order.

This petition came up for enquiry before the 2-member bench/panel of judges M. Sathyanarayanan and P. Pugazhendhi on Friday, 14th June. The state government of Tamil Nadu, while arguing, requested for some time extension to release the details of Academic Fees fixed by the above committee. On the basis of this request, the panel of judges postponed the enquiry to 21st June.
