These days with many CCTV cameras around us we cannot feel relaxed if we had violated traffic rules such as jumping signals, taking wrong U turn etc. The sensational piece of news that has come out is in Anna Nagar on Monday 90000 cases of traffic violations were booked by the traffic police.

This was made possible by the contactless enforcement system in the Anna Nagar locality. It must be noted that as many as 64 CCTV cameras installed in as many as 5 junctions like Anna Nagar Rountana, Shanthi Colony, Estate Road, 18th Main Road and Anna Nagar police station junction. It is well known that Hyundai has provided assistance in installation of these CCTV cameras there.

The information collected is a control room is situated near the Anna Nagar Round tana and some of the cameras are embedded with ANPR or Automatic Number Plate Recognition software. Few other cameras are embedded with red light violation detection. There are also some cameras with speed dome to detect the over speed of the vehicles. Monitoring of the vehicles is being done from this control room. Various violations in traffic are jumping stop line, not wearing helmets, over speeding, jumping signals,  triple riding, lane jumping, triple no entry violations, wrong side driving etc.

It is now revealed that this above system would soon be present in entire Chennai city and by this the traffic violations would be reduced. The vehicles would be watched constantly by the traffic police. It was mentioned by a senior police officer that since the system is linked to NIC or National Informatics Centre software, details about the traffic violators are available. The challans would soon be sent to the homes of those traffic violators.

It is brought out that the violators receiving challan at his/her home must be required to pay the penalty inside 24 hours. The violators sometimes might have to appear before the police station concerned and submit the documents of their vehicles if needed. Later they could pay their fines by e-challan.

The police officer spoke about how their department has got complete list of cases pending and those disposed and violators would not be able to escape without paying their fines. Police officer later confirmed that the traffic violators would be summoned if they continue to ignore. The important information is in case of second hand vehicles owner who hasn’t transferred the name would face the consequences.
