In Perumbakkam in Chennai, gym, playfield etc to come up

Perumbakkam is an important locality present in Chennai because it is just few kilometres away from the IT corridor OMR or Old Mahabalipuram Road. It is also well known that Perumbakkam is connected to Tambaram by Velachery- Tambaram road. Important point now is Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board or TNSCB has joined hands with SDAT or Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu. It is now said that gymnasium and a playground would be constructed at the Perumbakkam resettlement colony in the coming months. SDAT would also provide superb coaching for the children in various sports activities.
According to a TNSCB official it is clear that as many as 3 gyms and 1 playfield would be built at Perumbakkam and SDAT would be providing their coaching in athletics and in other sports. There would also be coaching in the football in this place.
Mr. M.S. Shanmugam, who is the managing director of TNSCB, expressed his thoughts on the upcoming gym, playing ground at Perumbakkam. He spoke about how there is huge talent present in the resettlement colonies and how that needs to be channelized and developed. Identification of children who excel in sports is going on. The selection of children would prevent them from involving themselves in illegal activities and bad habits.
One superb piece of information is from Saturday, there would be inter-slum Olympics in the resettlement colony at Perumbakkam. TNSCB would be organising this event for the children. Till 28th of May, this inter-slum Olympics would be held and over 500 youngsters would be taking part.
It must be noted that on Saturday, a cricket match was held and as many as 16 different teams took part. As per the official it is now revealed that various sports such as throw ball, volley ball, carom, chess, kabbadi etc would also be held in Perumbakkam. The information gathered is the children took part in the 100m without shoes, performed well and caught the attention of many.
Shot put event was won by Manikandan belonging to the resettlement colony and he spoke about how he worked as a food delivery agent. He spoke about his school days and said he used to participate in the events like gymnastics, shot put etc in his school days. Finally he threw light on how it would be of great help if other children at Perumbakkam resettlement colony get their chance to develop their skills in the sports.
