At the MRTS stations in Chennai city, there has been lack of security is known. Many efforts have been taken to provide a solution for this. It is now revealed that southern railway would be outsourcing at all the stations to the private agencies. There is a shortage of manpower at the MRTS stations and this has been cited as the reason for outsourcing security now.

It is known that 14 out of 18 MRTS in Chennai city are elevated. The total strength of The Railway Protection Force is 1300 and out of this 100 are located for MRTS security. In addition the government railway police have also deployed one constable per railway station in the peak hours of time.

As per a senior Railway Police Force of RPF, it is clear that the police personnel are available on the platforms and cannot keep an eye on all the floors in the elevated stations. He spoke about how crimes take place on other floors too and how outsourcing security to the private companies would be the solution for this.

The point here is these private companies have got many ex-servicemen on their rolls. Old as well as frail people would not be considered for the security work. The important information that has come out is meeting would be held with the senior officials belonging to southern railways, RPF and GRP and later tenders would be called for.

It was pointed out by the officer that there is shortage in the security staffs now and the private security agencies would provide the much needed help. It is worth mentioning that RailTel is working on installing the CCTV cameras and these cameras would serve as deterrence or stumbling block. Security available throughout the day would be superb and huge relief for the commuters. This was as per a regular commuter at the Chepauk MRTS railway station.

The commuter then shed light on how the people get drunk and sleep on the first floor of the railway stations and do not go to the stations. Later she spoke about how many loiterers have been misusing the unused rooms present at the stations. It must be noted that in the non-peak hours of time the stations are very isolated. It was pointed out by another regular MRTS commuter that most stations do not have proper lighting facility also. He finally wanted the security to get improved at the MRTS stations so that people would be benefited.
