At Egmore, a foot over bridge to be built for easy pedestrian movement

No more hassles for the pedestrians in Egmore in Chennai. The superb piece of news that has emerged out now is the pedestrian movement between Poonamallee High Road and Gandhi Irwin Road could be free from issues as a foot over bridge or FOB would be constructed. The important information collected is CMDA or Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority has proposed a separate foot over bridge or FOB cutting across the popular Egmore railway station.
Pedestrians would be able to bypass the congested roads to access the suburban trains and metro rail and this upcoming FOB would have 4 access points with escalators.
To enter the Egmore railway station, the pedestrians must cross the Poonamallee High Road n the north side and Gandhi –Irwin Road and there is a foot over bridge on the premises that leads to multiple platforms is known. It is now said that a new bridge has been suggested by a consultant appointed by CMDA. The Point is draft detailed project report has come out with two recommendations. The first recommendation is to merge the new bridge with the existing bridge inside the Egmore railway station and the second one is to have a exclusive bridge that would connect the 2 busy roads at Egmore.
It is important to mention that as per the second recommendation 560 m long bridge with a width of 4 m would have as many as 4 access points. There would be 2 entries from the corner of the office of the commissioner of police and Gandhi-Irwin Road near Veeran Azhaghu Muthu statue circle. In addition it would have 2 access points on the Gandhi-Irwin Road and north side of the Egmore railway station. There would be escalators and staircases present adjacent t each other on all the four access points.
It was pointed out that the idea of merging any foot over bridge with the existing facility present in Egmore station would make the existing bridge congested. As a result of this, CMDA is sending both the recommendations to the railways for perusal. This has been confirmed by an official later. The superb information is new bridge would not disturb the existing facility present at Egmore railway station. The amazing piece of news is 1.38 lakh people use this existing foot over bridge now. It is now said that an amount of Rs 80 crores to Rs 100 crores would be needed to construct a second foot over bridge.
